Company Profile

Scales Air Compressor Corp.
Established 1966

Scales Air Compressor was started in 1966, with the purpose of providing excellent air compressors and service to industry at fair prices. This founding principle continues today and guides our company in all of its transactions with customers and suppliers.

In January 1966, operations began in a 2,100 square foot garage type building in Carle Place, Long Island. Business was brisk, and in June of 1968, Scales moved to a 5,600 square foot building in Mineola. In the late fall, a 5,000 square-foot warehouse was added on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. Product lines were added, a sales force begun and the name Scales began to be associated with air compressors.

Business continued to improve, and Scales found that in addition to its primary areas of Metropolitan New York, New Jersey and Long Island, Scales had steady customers in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Canada, and even Europe and Japan.

A major forward step was completed in 1973 with the move to our new, modern plant and offices in Carle Place, New York.

In 1978, we expanded our company, created Scales Air Compressor Corporation of New Jersey, and opened an office in South Hackensack. Our share of the market grew rapidly, and before the end of the year, we arranged for a five-year lease for a shop, warehouse and office facility in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey.

In 1980, Scales Air Compressor needed additional room in Carle Place and leased six thousand square feet of office space on the second floor of the building in Carle Place.

The growth in New Jersey accelerated, and in 1983, our company tripled its facility with a move from Wood-Ridge to West Paterson and subsequently doubled the size of the facility to accommodate an even higher level of activity. Shortly thereafter, we added facilities and personnel in Horsham, Pennsylvania and Wallingford, Connecticut.

In 1992, with the expansion and growth of Connecticut's operation, we moved to a larger plant with offices, warehouse and a complete compressor rebuilding shop in Meriden, Ct.

In 1996, we added Industrial Compressor & Equipment Corp. (ICE) in Primos, Pennsylvania to the organization to expand our capabilities in Pennsylvania.

In 1997 Bill Scales, CEO of Scales Air Compressor Corp. was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy and others to represent all compressed air consultants to the D.O.E. Sponsored Compressed Air Challenge.

In 1998, our company purchased a new building on three acres of property and combined the operations of our facility in Pennsylvania with ICE, to accommodate our continued expansion.

In 1999, we acquired the personnel, equipment and technology to provide predictive maintenance and vibration analysis to assist the Scales organization in providing more in-depth services to our customers.
